Yor, the Hunter from the Future
Despite mostly unkind reviews, notably from Variety and The New York Times, Yor, the Hunter from the Future became one of Antonio Margheriti's most financially successful films. Italy, France and Turkey co-produced this 1983 science fiction and fantasy picture, known in Italian as Il mondo di Yor ("The World of Yor"), and in some countries its director was credited as Anthony M. Dawson. It drew three nominations at the 4th Golden Raspberry Awards in 1984 and later made a Razzie guide's list of the 100 worst yet funniest films.
The screenplay draws on the 1974 Argentinian comic Henga el cazador. Eugenio Juan Zappietro (also known as Ray Collins) wrote it and Juan Zanotto drew it. The story unfolds in a world mixing prehistoric and futuristic elements, where the warrior Yor searches for his origins. Reb Brown, Corinne Cléry, John Steiner and Carole André lead, with Luciano Pigozzi, Nello Pazzafini and Gregory Snegoff also in the cast.
It was conceived as a four-part miniseries for Italian television, and the film runs about eighty-five minutes. Part of the shoot took place in Cappadocia. In Germany the film opened as Einer gegen das Imperium on March 16, 1984, and later came out there on DVD.
