Tomris İncer — Biography

Tomris İncer was one of the most respected supporting actresses of her generation, leaving a mark on stage, in cinema and on television alike. Wide audiences knew her as Nadide Evliyaoğlu in Binbir Gece and Şahnur Baldar in Aşk ve Ceza, while her long years at the Istanbul City Theatres formed the real backbone of her career. She died in 2015.

She came to cinema in 1973 with Azap and joined the City Theatres company the following year. On stage she took parts in classic and contemporary plays such as Richard III, Medea and Les Liaisons dangereuses, and in the early 2010s she also appeared in productions by Altıdan Sonra Tiyatro. On screen the 1990s brought Tersine Dünya, Aylaklar and Kuşatma Altında Aşk, and the early 2000s Gönlümdeki Köşk Olmasa, Karşılaşma and Çamur. Her real breakthrough came in 2003 with the television series Bir İstanbul Masalı; Binbir Gece, Aşk ve Ceza and the role of Hümeyra in Böyle Bitmesin then made her a familiar face on television.

Her honours include prizes from the Adana Golden Boll and Ankara film festivals, the Sadri Alışık and Afife theatre awards, and an honorary award from the Theatre Critics Association. She died in Istanbul after a struggle with cancer and was buried in Foça.
