Cemal Reşit Rey (1904-1985) was a composer, pianist and orchestra conductor who ranked among the pioneers of Turkish polyphonic music. Born in Jerusalem, he was a leading member of the generation of composers known as the "Turkish Five" who shaped the country's musical life in the Republican era. Beyond composing, he was a versatile musician active as a screenwriter and an accomplished piano virtuoso.
