Hülya Darcan — Biography

Hülya Darcan, born in İzmir on April 27, 1951, is a Turkish actress with a career spanning over half a century, from Yeşilçam (the golden age of Turkish cinema) to contemporary television series. A high school graduate, Darcan won third place in a magazine cover competition for a famous magazine in 1967 at the age of 16; this opened doors for her to film offers, and she began her artistic career that same year.

In cinema, she acted in films such as Women's Gang (1968), He Who Falls Doesn't Cry (1969), Eagle of the Mountains (1970), and From Lips to Gun (1971); in later years, she took part in projects such as Our House, Zeybek Fire, Olive Branch, One Thousand and One Nights, and The Milky Way. She married actor Tanju Korel in 1974, whom she met in 1971; her daughter Bergüzar Korel is also a well-known actress, and Darcan is Halit Ergenç's mother-in-law.

She reached a wider audience again on television with her role as Melike in the series Dila Hanım (2012). One of the most well-known characters of her career is Hayme Ana, Ertuğrul's mother, whom she portrayed in Diriliş: Ertuğrul, which aired on TRT between 2014 and 2019; the international success of the series made this role known worldwide. In 2024, she returned to the screen with the character Neveser Giraylı in the series Kül Masalı.
