Jean Constantin — Biography
Jean Constantin was born on 9 February 1923 in Paris and became one of postwar France's most prolific songwriters, composers and jazz pianists. Although he also recorded and performed his own material, he was best known for writing for other singers, including two songs that went on to become French standards: "Mon manège à moi," recorded by Édith Piaf, plus "Mon truc en plumes" for Zizi Jeanmaire. He composed for the screen as well, scoring François Truffaut's The 400 Blows (1959) among other films, and occasionally took small acting roles himself, appearing in Le Baron de l'écluse (1960) and The Boss of Champignol (1966). Constantin died in the Paris region on 30 January 1997, at the age of seventy-three.
