Mete Horozoğlu — Biography
Born in Ankara to a family that had immigrated from Sarajevo to Bursa, Mete Horozoğlu attended primary school in Ankara, secondary school in Yalova and high school in Karamürsel. He graduated from Anadolu University's State Conservatory theatre program in 2001 and, on a scholarship, completed a master's degree in advanced acting at Bahçeşehir University in 2010. Between 2001 and 2003 he acted at Tiyatro Anadolu in Eskişehir, and after settling in Istanbul in 2002 he went on to perform with the Istanbul State Theatre, Çığır Sahnesi Oyuncuları and the Semaver Company.
He first drew attention with the series Yanık Koza, then with his role as Yüzbaşı Mete in the film Nefes: Vatan Sağolsun, before his breakthrough as Soner Talaşoğlu in Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman ki. He later played Zülfikar Ağa in Muhteşem Yüzyıl Kösem and appeared in productions including Kurtuluş Son Durak, Benim Adım Gültepe and Ayrılsak da Beraberiz. He married in 2011.
Following the 15 July coup attempt, an investigation was opened against him over alleged membership of the FETÖ movement; he subsequently left Turkey and settled in the United States, where he now teaches acting online and has periodically drawn Turkish media attention over his changed appearance.
