Breath (Nefes: Vatan Sağolsun)

Nefes: Vatan Sağolsun (Breath: Long Live the Homeland) is a 2009 Turkish war drama that marked Levent Semerci's feature directorial debut. Adapted from Hakan Evrensel's book "Tales from the Southeast," with a screenplay credited to Evrensel, Mehmet İlker Altınay, and Semerci, the film was produced by Fida Film on a budget of roughly two million dollars. Shooting took place at a purpose-built outpost on Tahtalı Mountain in Kemer, Antalya, and the film opened across Turkey on October 16, 2009.

The story follows a captain and his forty soldiers assigned to guard a radio relay station on the 2,365-meter Karabal Hill, near the Iraqi border in southeastern Turkey, portraying their hardship, grief, and solidarity. Cast largely with students drawn from conservatories around the country, the film won Best Film and Best First Film at the 3rd Yeşilçam Awards, and Semerci earned Best Director at the 17th Adana Golden Koza Film Festival. Ranked among the highest-grossing Turkish films of 2009, it was re-released in July 2010.
