Savaş Dinçel — Biography
Halil Savaş Dinçel (1 April 1942, Istanbul – 20 December 2007, Istanbul) was a Turkish stage, film and television actor, caricaturist and director. Born in the Fatih district, he trained in the theatre department of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory and first appeared on stage with the Istanbul City Theatres. He was removed from his theatre post in the aftermath of the 1980 military coup.
Across a career of more than four decades he appeared in some sixty productions, playing Haydar in Homoti (1987), the barber Ali in Ağır Roman (1997), İsmet İnönü in Cumhuriyet (1998), Hacı in Dar Alanda Kısa Paslaşmalar (2000) and Sacit in Eve Dönüş (2006). On television he reached a wide audience through the long-running Bizimkiler and as "Nusret Baba" in Ekmek Teknesi.
The Savaş Dinçel Theatre Awards were founded in his memory after his death. They are presented each year around 1 April, the actor's birthday, at Baba Sahne in Istanbul; the seventeenth edition was held in 2026.
