Sibel Tüzün — Biography

Born Ayşe Sibel Tüzün on 29 September 1971 in Istanbul, she began her musical training in 1978 with the TRT Istanbul Radio Children's Choir and later joined its Youth Choir during middle school. At Beşiktaş Atatürk High School she developed an interest in pop and rock, met composer Melih Kibar at a 1986 interschool competition, began voicing commercials, and backed several established singers on stage. In 1988 she was admitted top of her class to the Opera department of Istanbul University's State Conservatory, turning professional in 1991.

Her 1993 debut album Ah Biz Kızlar was followed by Nefes Kesen Aşklar, then by Hayat Buysa Ben Yokum, later Yine Yalnızım, and eventually Kırmızı and Saten. In 2006 she represented Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens with her self-written song "Süper Star," placing 11th. She made her film debut in Çılgın Dersane Kampta in 2007 and competed on Survivor Ünlüler-Gönüllüler in 2012. Between 2015 and 2017 she trained in musical theatre at the Royal Academy in London and appeared in the musical Mutluluk in 2017. She settled in London in 2020 and is the mother of two children.
