Şükrü Türen — Biography

Şükrü Türen was born on 29 May 1959 in Istanbul. After graduating from the Theatre Department of the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul State Conservatory, he has worked as both an actor and a director at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres since 1977.

He served as general art director of the İBB City Theatres from 2000 to 2002 and of the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Theatre from 2006 to 2007, and sat on the Afife Jale Awards jury and the board of the Turkish branch of the International Theatre Institute. In 2001 he won the Afife Jale Award for Best Actor. On stage he has appeared in plays such as Kral Lear, Vişne Bahçesi and Üç Kız Kardeş, and directed works including Shakespeare's Othello and Coriolanus; he also teaches theatre at Haliç University Conservatory. He is married with one child.

His screen career began in 1987 with the film Aşkın İlk Yarısı, and he has appeared in series such as Merdoğlu, Sensiz Olmuyor, Gurbet Kuşları, Annem Uyurken, Zeytin Tepesi, Küçük Ağa, Rengarenk and Anne. He has continued working in more recent years, appearing in Kuruluş Osman (2022), Dayton (2023) and Bahar (2024).
