1½ Knights – In Search of the Ravishing Princess Herzelinde

This 2008 German production is a slapstick medieval parody co-directed by Til Schweiger and Christof Wahl. At its core sits a princess named Herzelinde, snatched away by a dreaded dark-armored knight, leaving her rescue to a brave warrior called Lanze and his bumbling, reluctant companion Erdal. Along their quest the pair clash with outside dangers as often as they clash with each other. The script playfully borrows figures such as Siegfried and Brünnhilde from Richard Wagner's famous Nibelung saga, dropping them into the story for comic effect. Oliver Ziegenbalg penned the screenplay while Warner Bros. handled the production. Alongside leads Schweiger and Rick Kavanian, the ensemble includes Thomas Gottschalk, Udo Kier, Denis Moschitto and Fahri Yardım. Reviewers were largely unimpressed with the finished picture.
