A Girl in Australia

A Girl in Australia (original title: Bello, onesto, emigrato Australia sposerebbe compaesana illibata) is a 1971 Italian comedy directed by Luigi Zampa. Amedeo (Alberto Sordi), an Italian who has emigrated to Australia and saved up for years, longs to marry a respectable woman from his homeland and arranges for a bride to be sent over. What arrives instead is Carmela (Claudia Cardinale), a lively, worldly woman whose past is anything but the chaste innocence he had imagined. Torn between sending her back and his growing attachment to her, Amedeo stumbles through a courtship that exposes the loneliness and illusions of the emigrant's life. Cardinale's performance earned her the David di Donatello award for Best Actress. The screenplay was written by Rodolfo Sonego and Luigi Zampa.
