Big Sur

Big Sur is a 2013 American drama film written and directed by Michael Polish. It adapts Beat Generation writer Jack Kerouac's 1962 novel of the same name, based on the author's brief stays at his friend Lawrence Ferlinghetti's cabin in Bixby Canyon, in the Big Sur region of California.

The film portrays Kerouac as a writer mentally and physically worn down by the pressures of the sudden fame brought by On the Road and by his deepening alcoholism, torn between seeking solitude in nature and the pull of city life. Jean-Marc Barr plays Kerouac, with Kate Bosworth, Josh Lucas, and Radha Mitchell among the cast. The film premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and received a limited theatrical release in the United States on November 1, 2013.
