Dr. Knock

Dr. Knock (original title Knock) is a 1951 French black-and-white comedy directed by Guy Lefranc from a screenplay by Georges Neveux. It adapts Jules Romains' celebrated stage play Knock ou le Triomphe de la médecine, first performed in 1923, and stands as a remake of the 1933 film version in which Louis Jouvet had already played the leading role. Jouvet returns as the title character here, supported by a cast that includes Jacques Monod and Pierre Bertin, while a young Louis de Funès appears uncredited in a minor part. Running about 98 minutes and shot in French, the picture carries Romains' satire of the medical profession to the screen. The story proved durable enough to be filmed once more in 2017 under the title Knock.
