Girls for the Summer (Italian: Racconti d'estate; released in the United States as Love on the Riviera) is a 1958 French-Italian romantic comedy-drama directed by Gianni Franciolini. The screenplay draws on a story by Alberto Moravia, with Edoardo Anton and Alberto Sordi also credited as writers. Structured as an anthology, the film presents five separate romantic and comic tales set along the Gulf of Tigullio on the Ligurian coast of north-western Italy. During the summer holiday season, the various characters drift through flirtations, misunderstandings and brief affairs in a seaside resort setting. The ensemble cast features Alberto Sordi, Michèle Morgan, Marcello Mastroianni, Sylva Koscina, Gabriele Ferzetti, Dorian Gray, Franca Marzi, Franco Fabrizi and Jorge Mistral. Running about 113 minutes, the picture is a typical product of the multi-episode ensemble comedies that were popular in Italian cinema at the end of the 1950s.
