In the Land of Blood and Honey

In the Land of Blood and Honey is a 2011 American war drama written, directed and produced by Angelina Jolie. Marking Jolie's feature debut as a director, the film was produced by GK Films and stars Zana Marjanović, Goran Kostić and Rade Šerbedžija.

Set during the Bosnian War of the early 1990s, it follows Danijel, a soldier fighting for the Serbian side, who encounters Ajla, a Bosnian woman he knew before the war, when she is held in a prison camp. The two, from different ethnic backgrounds, find themselves torn between their past feelings and the harsh realities of the conflict. The film premiered in New York on December 5, 2011, and opened in limited release in the United States on December 23. Its treatment of mass rapes in Bosnia stirred controversy during production, and some scenes planned for Sarajevo were instead shot in Budapest.
