Kobra Takibi

Alarm for Cobra 11 – The Highway Police (Alarm für Cobra 11 – Die Autobahnpolizei)

TV Series · 1996 · 3 people

Kobra Takibi is the Turkish title of Alarm für Cobra 11 – Die Autobahnpolizei (Alarm for Cobra 11 – The Highway Police), a German action and crime series that began on RTL on 12 March 1996. It follows the Cobra 11 team, two highway police officers whose job is to solve crimes and catch the culprits. Car chases, shoot-outs, explosions and fist fights are its trademarks; the stunts are staged lavishly, making it RTL's most expensive production. Sold through Fremantle, it has aired in about 120 countries.

The story is set at first around Berlin and, from 1999, around Cologne and North Rhine-Westphalia. At the centre of the team is the Turkish-born officer Semir Gerkhan. Main star Erdoğan Atalay leads a cast that has included Katja Woywood, Mark Keller and Gedeon Burkhard, and the Turkish-German actors Fahri Yardım, Numan Acar and Tim Seyfi also appeared. The show reached 387 episodes, and its first episode drew 10.07 million viewers.

The series was conceived in 1995 by Claude Cueni, with directors including Leo Zahn and Franco Tozza. The last regular episode, "Das Team", aired on 12 August 2021, and Atalay blamed COVID-19 for the halt. Since 2022 new episodes have been made only at feature length. Spin-offs include Team 2, broadcast from 2003 to 2005.

Through different eyes

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

Kobra Takibi (Alarm für Cobra 11) is one of those rare long-runners, on air since 1996 and past 387 episodes. Over such a long road the formula inevitably repeats itself: episodes revolve around crime, chases and explosions, and if you want story depth the middle years can blur together. The real glue is Semir Gerkhan, played by Erdoğan Atalay. As cast members come and go over the years the show's energy rises and falls, and some pairings click far better than others. The move from Berlin to Cologne brought a fresh feel. Ideal for dipping into episode by episode now and then; don't try to binge it all in one go.

Action & Thriller Fan Puts pace, tension and set pieces first; little patience for slow drama.

Seeing action like this on German TV is a surprisingly good time. The motorway chases, explosions and fights are carefully staged; no wonder it's known as RTL's most expensive production. The stories are usually simple, and who-did-it takes a back seat. But the pace never sags, and the car scenes alone are worth watching. Perfect for switching your brain off.

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

A police action series with shootouts, explosions and fistfights at its core. It may be too rough for young children; middle school and up is a better fit. Having a police officer of Turkish origin at the centre of the team, plus familiar faces like Fahri Yardım and Numan Acar, may catch the family's interest. It moves episode by episode, so it's easy to put one on with the teens after dinner.
