Commissar Shakespeare (Komser Şekspir)
Commissar Shakespeare is a 2001 Turkish comedy-drama directed by Sinan Çetin and produced by Plato Film.
The story follows Cemil, a tough-minded police commissioner whose young daughter, battling leukemia, dreams of acting in the theater. Determined to make her wish come true, Cemil turns his own station into a makeshift stage and assembles an unlikely troupe drawn from those in custody — a prostitute, a faded Yeşilçam child star, a mafia boss and a group of street children — to put on a production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The endeavor gives rise to moments that are by turns comic and deeply touching.
Kadir İnanır headlines the cast as Cemil, joined by Okan Bayülgen, Müjde Ar, Pelin Batu, Özkan Uğur and Gazanfer Özcan. For her role, Müjde Ar earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 34th Turkish Film Critics Association Awards.
