L'amour braque

L'amour braque is a 1985 French film directed by Andrzej Żuławski, a romantic drama that also sits within the melodrama tradition. Sophie Marceau, Francis Huster and Tchéky Karyo head the cast. Shot in French and running about 101 minutes, it is loosely inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky's 1869 novel The Idiot. Released in English as Mad Love and in German as Liebe und Gewalt, it earned a nomination for Best Film at the Fantasporto International Fantasy Film Festival in 1986.

The story begins when a bank robber on his way to Paris runs into a neurotic dreamer whom he takes for a fool. The dreamer follows the robber everywhere and soon falls in love with the man's girlfriend. This obsessive passion draws all three towards a tragic ending. The cast also includes Marie-Christine Adam, Christiane Jean, Alain Flick, Bernard Freyd, Pauline Lafont and Wladimir Yordanoff.

Żuławski wrote the screenplay together with Étienne Roda-Gil.
