La Révolution française

La Révolution française is a two-part historical drama produced in 1989 by France, Italy and Canada to mark the bicentenary of the French Revolution. The first part, "Les Années lumière", directed by Robert Enrico, covers the period from the calling of the Estates-General in 1789 to the storming of the Tuileries Palace on 10 August 1792, while the second part, "Les Années terribles", directed by Richard T. Heffron, follows events from Louis XVI's imprisonment at the Temple to the execution of Robespierre.

Shot in French and English from a screenplay by David Ambrose, Daniel Boulanger and Robert Enrico, with historian Jean Tulard as historical advisor, the film featured an international cast and an enormous budget of roughly 300 million francs. Despite this ambition it was a commercial failure, and a longer version was edited for television.
