Las 13 rosas

Las 13 rosas (13 Roses) is a 2007 Spanish-Italian historical drama directed by Emilio Martínez-Lázaro, with a screenplay by Ignacio Martínez de Pisón. Adapted from Carlos Fonseca's book Trece rosas rojas, it is based on true events.

Set in the early days of the Franco regime, right after the end of the Spanish Civil War, the film tells the story of thirteen young women known as "Las Trece Rosas." Most of them belonged to the Unified Socialist Youth and were accused of aiding an assassination attempt against Franco. Despite harsh interrogations and imprisonment, they maintained their innocence, yet all were swiftly sentenced to death and executed by firing squad on 5 August 1939. The film portrays their refusal to abandon their ideals in the face of repression.

The cast includes Pilar López de Ayala, Verónica Sánchez, Gabriella Pession, and Marta Etura. The film received fourteen Goya Award nominations and won four: cinematography, costume design, original score, and best supporting actor.
