Late Shift

Late Shift (German: Heldin) is a 2025 Swiss-German drama film written and directed by Petra Volpe, loosely inspired by Madeline Calvelage's book "Unser Beruf ist nicht das Problem: Es sind die Umstände."

The story follows Floria (Leonie Benesch), a dedicated nurse on the surgical ward of an understaffed hospital, whose ordinary late shift spirals into a tense race against time after a critical mistake. Lâle Yavaş also appears in the film.

The film premiered in the Berlinale Special Gala section of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2025 and opened in Swiss cinemas later that month. It was submitted as Switzerland's candidate for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards, advancing to the December shortlist, and went on to win four prizes -- including Best Feature -- at the 2026 Swiss Film Award.
