Man About Town

Man About Town, originally titled Le silence est d'or, is a 1947 romantic comedy co-produced by France and the United States, written and directed by René Clair. The picture marked Clair's return to French filmmaking after roughly twelve years working abroad in Britain and America, and it was also the first post-war film for its star, singer and actor Maurice Chevalier, who had remained in France during the war. The cast also includes François Périer and Dany Robin. A nostalgic comedy set against the world of silent-era moviemaking, the film was shown in the United States in a shortened version under the title Man About Town. At the 1947 Locarno International Film Festival it received the top prize for best film.
