Manuale d'amore

Movie · 2005–2006 · 2 people

Directed by Giovanni Veronesi, Manuale d'amore is a 2005 Italian romantic comedy told through four interconnected episodes. In the first, Giulia and Tommaso meet and fall in love; in the second, Barbara and Marco's marriage reaches the brink of divorce; in the third, a female traffic officer betrayed by her husband takes her revenge; and in the final chapter, Goffredo, a wealthy doctor abandoned by his wife, faces his loneliness. Each encounter opens the door to the next story, linking all the characters to one another.

Based on an original idea by Vincenzo Cerami, with a screenplay by Ugo Chiti and Veronesi, the film pays homage to commedia all'italiana masters Ettore Scola and Dino Risi. Produced by Filmauro, it earned 15 million euros in Italy, ranking as the second most successful film of the year, and received twelve David di Donatello nominations. Two sequels followed in 2007 and 2011.
