Mister Scarface

Mister Scarface (original Italian title I padroni della città, meaning "The rulers of the city") is a 1976 Italian-German poliziottesco film directed by Fernando Di Leo, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Berling. The story follows Tony (Harry Baer), a collector working for a mafia-backed loan shark who is deeply dissatisfied with his station in life and constantly dreams of starting over in Brazil with his brother. Looking for easy money, Tony throws in with organized crime and climbs through the ranks of the syndicate on his own strength, aided by Napoli, a mob agitator. Together they devise a scheme to make a fortune right under the nose of the organization's boss, Manzari (Jack Palance), who has no intention of letting them get away with it. The principal cast includes Jack Palance, Harry Baer, Al Cliver, Gisela Hahn, Edmund Purdom and Vittorio Caprioli. The film is a representative entry in Di Leo's gritty cycle of 1970s crime pictures.
