My Wife (La mia signora)

Movie · 1964 · 2 people

La mia signora, released internationally as My Wife, is a black-and-white Italian comedy from 1964. It is an anthology in the commedia all'italiana tradition: five separate episodes made by three directors, Tinto Brass, Mauro Bolognini and Luigi Comencini. The screenplay is by Rodolfo Sonego, Marcello Fondato and Alberto Bevilacqua. Made in Italian and running about 97 minutes, it was produced by Dino De Laurentiis Cinematografica.

Alberto Sordi and Silvana Mangano star in all five episodes, which look at marriage and at relations between men and women with humour. The cast also includes Claudio Gora, Maria Tedeschi, Mino Doro, Elena Nicolai and Elena Fabrizi.

One of the segments went on to have a life of its own: Comencini's Eritrea was remade by Sergio Corbucci as Rimini Rimini (1987). The French title is Ma femme, and in Latin America the film is known in Spanish as Mi esposa.
