Not Here to Be Loved (Je ne suis pas là pour être aimé)
Stéphane Brizé directed the 2005 French comedy-drama Je ne suis pas là pour être aimé (Not Here to Be Loved in English, Aşkın Dansı in Turkey). Moving between drama, comedy and romance, it tells in a warm, understated tone how dance awakens a middle-aged man whose life has sunk into routine. It opened in France on 12 October 2005 and in Turkey on 21 April 2006, and runs about 90 minutes.
The central character, Jean-Claude Delsart, is played by Patrick Chesnais. Fifty years old, he is a bailiff whose wife has left him, and he spends every weekend visiting his grumpy father (Georges Wilson) in a retirement home. One day, looking out of the window, he notices a dance studio in the building opposite, is deeply struck, rushes over and signs up. Dancing transforms his whole life and brings him together with Françoise (Anne Consigny), who is about to be married. Lionel Abelanski appears as Thierry, and Cyril Couton is also in the cast.
Brizé wrote the screenplay with Juliette Sales, and TS Productions produced it. The music is by Christoph H. Müller and Eduardo Makaroff. The film was also shown at the 25th Istanbul International Film Festival.
