Slut (Sürtük) (translated)

Sürtük is a Turkish drama film directed by Adolf Körner and released on September 10, 1942. Refik Kemal Arduman's screenplay was adapted from George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play Pygmalion; cinematography was handled by Necati Tözüm, and the film was distributed by Dar Film.

The story follows Naciye, a young woman who earns her living singing on the streets, until nightclub owner Ekrem discovers her and is determined to make her his venue's lead singer. When Naciye falls in love with the pianist hired to teach her music and the feelings are mutual, Ekrem's possessive interference drives the couple away, yet his shadow follows them wherever they try to work. Zehra Yumsel portrays Naciye, alongside Halide Pişkin, Avni Dilligil, Muazzez Arçay, and Mümtaz Ener. The production is also remembered as the first film appearance of Hulusi Kentmen, later regarded as one of Turkish cinema's great actors. The same play was filmed again in 1965 and 1970 under Ertem Eğilmez's direction.
