Tara Road

Tara Road is a 2005 English-language Irish drama directed by Gillies MacKinnon. With a screenplay by Shane Connaughton and Cynthia Cidre, the film adapts Maeve Binchy's 1998 novel of the same name, and stars Olivia Williams, Andie MacDowell, Stephen Rea, and Iain Glen. It was screened on 11 May 2005 at the Cannes Film Market.

The story follows a two-month house swap between two women who have never met. In Dublin, Ria's life falls apart when she learns her husband is in love with another woman, while in America Marilyn struggles to recover after the death of her son. Meeting by chance, the two women exchange homes to find relief in unfamiliar surroundings, though they cannot fully escape the pasts they tried to leave behind. The film received mixed reviews from critics and achieved only middling box office results.
