My aunt (Teyzem) (translated)

Teyzem (My Aunt) is a 1986 Turkish drama film directed by Halit Refiğ. Its screenplay, written by Ümit Ünal, won first prize in the 1986 Milliyet Newspaper Screenplay Competition, and the film opened in theaters on October 1, 1986.

The story follows the life of Üftade as seen through the eyes of her nephew Umur, who is left at his grandmother's house after his father becomes wanted for political reasons. Umur grows deeply attached to his aunt, and over time it emerges that Üftade's past is far more tragic than anyone assumed; years later, Umur pieces that past together through the writings she left behind.

Müjde Ar stars as Üftade, joined by Serra Yılmaz, Uğur Yücel, Tomris Oğuzalp, Mehmet Akan, and Yaşar Alptekin. The film was also shown at several international film festivals of its era.
