The Boss of It All

Originally titled Direktøren for det hele and released in Turkey as Emret Patronum, this 2006 comedy was written and directed by Lars von Trier. The Zentropa production is a Denmark-centered multinational co-production. Von Trier shot it using 'automavision,' a method he devised for this film in which framing and camera movements are determined largely at random by computer, giving the picture a deliberately rough, imperfect look compared with conventional cinematography. The film satirizes power structures in the business world as well as Danish national quirks and the country's relationship with Iceland.

Ravn, who founded an IT company and now wants to sell it, has spent years telling his staff that the real boss is a mysterious absentee figure, blaming every unpopular decision on him. When the prospective Icelandic buyers insist on meeting the boss face to face, Ravn hires Kristoffer, an unemployed actor, to play the part. Clueless about the company's realities, the actor's every encounter with employees spirals into absurd misunderstandings, and the story builds toward a reckoning over who truly runs the firm. Jean-Marc Barr appears in the cast.
