The Champagne Murders

The Champagne Murders (original French title Le Scandale) is a 1967 French crime thriller directed by Claude Chabrol. Adapted from a story by William Benjamin with a screenplay by Claude Brulé, the film stars Anthony Perkins and Maurice Ronet. It marked the first of two collaborations between Chabrol and Perkins, the actor celebrated for Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho — Hitchcock being the filmmaker Chabrol admired above all others. Blending mystery and psychological suspense, the picture reflects Chabrol's characteristic fascination with crime and moral unease among the well-off. For his performance, Maurice Ronet received the best actor award, the Silver Shell, at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. The film was released under different titles in Spain and Latin America.
