Dominique Zardi — Biography

Born Emile Jean Cohen-Zardi in Paris on 2 March 1930, Dominique Zardi grew into one of French cinema’s most familiar supporting faces. Active from the late 1940s until his death, he appeared in well over three hundred productions, typically cast as gangsters, policemen, or minor officials. A favorite of directors Claude Chabrol and Jean-Pierre Mocky, he frequently shared the screen with fellow character actor Henri Attal, and became widely recognized for his part in the Fantômas trilogy alongside Jean Marais and Louis de Funès. Beyond acting, he composed music used in several Chabrol films, wrote roughly ten novels, and worked as a sports journalist. He was the uncle of director and actress Agnès Jaoui. Zardi died of cancer in Paris on 13 December 2009 at age 79.
