Cry of the Cormoran

The 1971 French film Le Cri du cormoran le soir au-dessus des jonques (Cry of the Cormoran) was both written and directed by Michel Audiard. Known for its slang-heavy, literary dialogue, the burlesque comedy reunited several actors who frequently appeared in Audiard's pictures, among them Michel Serrault, Robert Dalban and Dominique Zardi.

It is also remembered as one of the earliest screen credits for a then-unknown Gérard Depardieu, who turns up in a minor part. The screenplay is credited to Jean-Marie Poiré and Evan Hunter. The picture stands as a typical example of the broad, star-driven comedies that filled French cinemas in the early 1970s.
