Robert Dalban — Biography
Robert Dalban, born Gaston Barré on 19 July 1903 in Celles-sur-Belle, became one of French cinema's most familiar supporting players. After early stage work, he moved into film in the mid-1930s and went on to appear in more than two hundred pictures over five decades, most often cast as police inspectors, butchers or taxi drivers. He shared scenes with leading names of French film such as Jean Gabin, Louis de Funès, Alain Delon, Lino Ventura and Bernard Blier. Among his best-remembered parts are the newspaper director in the Fantômas trilogy, Inspector Gouvion in Le Pacha, and a technician in La Chèvre; he also appeared in the Seventh Company films and in La Boum. Comedy and crime pictures made up much of his later output. He died in Paris on 3 April 1987.
