Only the Wind Knows the Answer

Alfred Vohrer directed Die Antwort kennt nur der Wind (Only the Wind Knows the Answer), a 1974 West German-French thriller adapted from Johannes Mario Simmel's best-selling novel of the same name. The story opens when the yacht of billionaire Hellmann blows up in the Mediterranean, taking the lives of its owner and eight crew members. Because suicide cannot be ruled out, insurance investigator Lucas heads to the Côte d'Azur to look into the case. He soon learns that Hellmann's villa had been under secret camera surveillance, and the footage contains telling evidence about the explosion. Instead of handing his findings over, Lucas exploits them as material for blackmail. Maurice Ronet, Marthe Keller and Karin Dor lead the ensemble. Filmed on the French Riviera and in Zurich, Frankfurt and Munich, the production was selected for the 9th Moscow International Film Festival.
