Where the Truth Lies (Maléfices)
Where the Truth Lies, known in French as Maléfices — a title that evokes curses or dark spells — is a 1962 French film blending horror atmosphere with thriller and crime elements. Henri Decoin directed the picture and also co-wrote its screenplay together with Claude Accursi.
The 104-minute production starred Juliette Gréco in a leading role, with Jean-Marc Bory and Swiss actress Liselotte Pulver rounding out the principal cast. Supporting performers included Jeanne Pérez, Robert Dalban, Georges Chamarat, Jacques Dacqmine and Marcel Pérès.
Made entirely as a French production, the film arrived at a point when Decoin was an established figure in French genre cinema, having built a career mixing crime, psychological tension and melodrama across several decades. The film remains a lesser-known entry in Decoin's substantial filmography from the early 1960s.
