The Crowned Fish Tavern

The Crowned Fish Tavern (La Taverne du poisson couronné) is a 1947 French drama directed by René Chanas. Michel Simon, Jules Berry and Blanchette Brunoy lead the cast, with supporting performances from Harry-Max, Robert Dalban, Raymond Bussières, Léon Larive and Grégoire Gromoff, among others. The screenplay was written by Henri Jeanson together with Chanas and Nino Frank. Shot at the Epinay Studios just outside Paris, the production featured set design by art director Pierre Marquet. Running about 104 minutes, the film belongs to the wave of character-driven French dramas released in the immediate postwar years, built around the work of its celebrated leading actors.
