Madelon

Madelon (French: La Madelon) is a 1955 French comedy directed by Jean Boyer, with Line Renaud, Jean Richard and Roger Pierre in the leading roles. The picture draws on the famous First World War song La Madelon, written by Louis Bousquet and Camille Robert and first performed in 1914 at the Eldorado café-concert in Paris by the singer known as Bach. That tune tells of Madelon, a cheerful waitress at a country inn who is courted by passing soldiers, and the film builds its light-hearted story around the same character and mood. The sets were created by art director Robert Giordani. Running about ninety minutes, the production is a typical example of French popular cinema of its decade, blending music-hall nostalgia with gentle humour and turning a beloved wartime melody into a breezy screen entertainment.
