La Carapate

La Carapate is a 1978 French comedy directed by Gérard Oury, who co-wrote the screenplay with his daughter Danièle Thompson. The film follows the farcical flight across France of an escaped death-row convict (Victor Lanoux) and his lawyer (Pierre Richard), who is reluctantly swept along, amid the turmoil of the May 1968 events. The leading duo is supported by Raymond Bussières, Jean-Pierre Darras and Yvonne Gaudeau.

Produced by Alain Poiré for Gaumont, the film was shot in spring 1978 around Paris and in Burgundy; the barricade scenes were recreated in studios for fear of sparking fresh unrest. Released in October 1978, it drew nearly three million admissions, a solid success though below Oury's earlier box-office triumphs.
