Janine Darcey — Biography

Janine Darcey, born Janine Renée Casaubon, was born on 14 January 1917 in Asnières-sur-Seine and died on 1 October 1993 in Fontenay-lès-Briis. A French actress of stage, film and television, she appeared in nearly sixty films between 1936 and 1993. Early in her career she drew attention for a role in Jules Dassin's celebrated crime film Du rififi chez les hommes. She also appeared in films including Le Bon Plaisir, Un témoin dans la ville, La Carapate, Le Fantôme de la liberté, Coup de tête and American Dreamer. In her personal life she was married to actor Serge Reggiani, with whom she had a son, Stéphan Reggiani. Across a film career spanning more than six decades, she remained a recognisable presence in French cinema.
