The Seven Deadly Sins

Movie · 1952 · 2 people

This 1952 French-Italian co-production is an anthology picture built around the seven deadly sins, unfolding through a series of self-contained episodes made by different directors. Five segments came from France and two from Italy, covering pride, lust, sloth, envy, avarice combined with anger, and gluttony, before closing with a sketch about an eighth sin. Claude Autant-Lara and Eduardo De Filippo were among the filmmakers who contributed segments. When the picture was released in Italy, it circulated without the final seventh segment. The ensemble cast features many of the era's prominent stars, including Michèle Morgan, Gérard Philipe, Isa Miranda, Louis de Funès, Viviane Romance, Maurice Ronet and Henri Vidal. Running roughly two hours, the film blends dramatic and comic tones across its varied episodes, offering a panoramic sketch of human weakness.
