Le Bossu

Le Bossu is a 1959 French-Italian co-production, a swashbuckling adventure film directed by André Hunebelle. It is adapted from Paul Féval's 1857 serialized novel of the same name and counts as the seventh of ten known screen versions of that story.

The plot follows the chevalier Henri de Lagardère, who disguises himself as a hideous hunchback to infiltrate the circle of Prince Philippe de Gonzague, the murderer of his friend the Duke of Nevers, and who restores the inheritance rights of the duke's daughter Aurore fifteen years later. Jean Marais stars alongside Bourvil, then arguably France's most popular comedian. Their pairing proved so successful that Hunebelle reunited both actors for his next adventure film, Captain Blood.
