Captain Blood (French: Le Capitan; Italian: Il capitano del re) is a 1960 French-Italian swashbuckler directed by André Hunebelle. The screenplay, credited to Jean Halain, Pierre Foucaud and Hunebelle himself, draws on Michel Zévaco's 1907 novel. Jean Marais heads the cast, joined by Bourvil, Elsa Martinelli, Lise Delamare and Edmond Beauchamp. Filmed in French, the picture offers a costume adventure in the classic swordplay tradition. Owing to its English-language title, it is frequently confused with the 1935 Hollywood production Captain Blood featuring Errol Flynn, yet the two movies share nothing beyond that name and stem from wholly unrelated sources.
