The Four Charlots Musketeers (Les Quatre Charlots mousquetaires, 1974) is a French comedy directed by André Hunebelle. A parody of Alexandre Dumas's The Three Musketeers, the film stars the members of the popular French comic troupe Les Charlots — Gérard Rinaldi, Jean Sarrus, Gérard Filippelli and Jean-Guy Fechner — whose name is echoed in the original French title. The quartet plays Dumas's swashbuckling heroes with a clumsy, irreverent twist, mixing swordplay conventions with broad farce. Released in France on 13 February 1974 and running about 110 minutes, the production also features Dominique Zardi, Henri Attal and Jacques Legras among its supporting players. The film proved successful enough to spawn a sequel, À nous quatre, Cardinal !, which reached cinemas only a month later with the same team.
