The Four Charlottes Musketeers 2 (The Four Charlots Musketeers 2) (translated)

Movie · 1974–1975 · 3 people

À nous quatre, Cardinal ! (released in English as The Four Charlots Musketeers 2) is a 1974 French comedy directed by André Hunebelle and starring the popular comic troupe Les Charlots. It serves as a sequel to Les Quatre Charlots mousquetaires, which had premiered only a month earlier, and continues the group's irreverent spoof of Alexandre Dumas's The Three Musketeers. This time the bumbling musketeers find themselves pitted against the Cardinal, with the classic adventure story reworked into slapstick farce.

The four leads — Gérard Rinaldi, Jean-Guy Fechner, Jean Sarrus and Gérard Filippelli — are joined by a supporting cast that includes Daniel Ceccaldi, Bernard Menez and Catherine Jourdan. Written by Jean Halain, the film runs about 75 minutes and blends parody with the swashbuckler genre typical of Hunebelle's earlier costume adventures. It belongs to a series of films that brought the Charlots' stage and music-hall humor to the screen, trading heroism for gags while loosely following the outline of Dumas's novel.
