School for Love (Futures Vedettes)

School for Love (Futures vedettes) is a 1955 French drama directed by Marc Allégret and adapted from a novel by Vicki Baum. Set in a performing arts school, the story follows young students caught between singing, dance and piano lessons as they struggle with the pains of growing up. Two aspiring singers fall for their voice teacher, but the man they both desire is already married, and this hopeless infatuation unsettles everyday life at the school. The film stars Brigitte Bardot and Jean Marais and counts among Bardot's earliest screen appearances. It was shot at the Franstudio facilities in Saint-Maurice, Val-de-Marne. Internationally it circulated under several titles: Joy of Living or School for Love in the United States, Sweet Sixteen in Britain and Reif auf jungen Blüten in West Germany. Roger Vadim and France Roche contributed to the screenplay alongside Allégret.
