The Breach
The Breach (La Rupture), also known as The Breakup, is a 1970 French-Italian drama and psychological thriller written and directed by Claude Chabrol, adapted from Charlotte Armstrong's novel The Balloon Man.
The film follows a mother fighting for custody of her young son while her father-in-law hires a petty con man to compromise her. Blending social drama with thriller elements, the 124-minute feature stars Stéphane Audran, Jean-Pierre Cassel and Michel Bouquet in the leading roles, and stands among Chabrol's notable literary adaptations of the period.
