The Unfaithful Wife

The Unfaithful Wife (La Femme infidèle) is a 1969 French–Italian drama thriller written and directed by Claude Chabrol, starring Stéphane Audran, Michel Bouquet and Maurice Ronet. The story follows a businessman who, after discovering his wife's infidelity, kills her lover. Running about 98 minutes, the film stands among Chabrol's works that probe the darker side of bourgeois life.

The film was not a major box-office success in France, selling roughly 682,000 tickets. Nevertheless, it came to be regarded as a classic and was included in The New York Times' list of the 1,000 best films ever made. In 2002 it received an English-language remake, Unfaithful, directed by Adrian Lyne.
