Love Is Gay, Love Is Sad

Love Is Gay, Love Is Sad — originally L'amour c'est gai, l'amour c'est triste — is a French drama directed by Jean-Daniel Pollet. Shot in 1968, it reached German cinemas on 17 October 1969 as Liebe macht lustig, Liebe tut weh, but did not open in France until 26 March 1971.

Remo Forlani and Pollet wrote the original screenplay for the roughly 95-minute film, with Forlani also credited for the dialogue; Jean-Jacques Rochut photographed it and Jean-Jacques Debout composed the score. Anatole Dauman acted as delegate producer on the co-production between Argos Films and Galba Films.

Claude Melki, Bernadette Lafont, Chantal Goya and Jean-Pierre Marielle take the principal roles, with Marcel Dalio making a guest appearance. Dominique Zardi, Jacques Doniol-Valcroze and Rufus round out the cast. As no detailed synopsis appears in the verified sources, only credits are given here.
